Healthy lifestyle classes include exercise, stress management and nutrition programs. All are open to people with cancer and their loved ones.  


 

Exercise Programs

 

Various exercise classes are designed to reduce stress, build strength in the body, and strengthen the immune system for people with cancer and those who support them. Enjoy weekly classes and special offerings. No registration or experience required. Click class title for printable flyer.

 

Yoga 

Support your well-being and physical recovery through strength building yoga postures, gentle movement and relaxation. Yoga is shown to boost the immune system and calm the nervous system.

  • Tuesdays, 4pm - 5:15pm (Relaxation and Recovery)
  • Tuesdays 6pm - 7pm
  • Wednesdays 11am-12:15pm
  • Wednesdays 6-7pm at the St. Joseph Mercy Canton Cancer Center Community Room

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

 

Tai Chi

Calm the mind and strengthen the body with ancient Chinese movements. Benefits include regeneration, relaxation, improved balance and energy building. Click here to view a video demonstration of our instructor. Mondays, 10-11am. 

 

Guided Meditation 

Calm the mind by utilizing relaxation techniques such as guided meditation and guided imagery. Tuesdays, 12-1 pm. 


Zumba Gold

This class includes Latin and International dance rhythms such as Merengue, Salsa, Cha Cha, Cumbia, Belly Dancing, Flamenco, Samba, and Rock & Roll. It is a safe and effective total body workout in a party like atmosphere. 

Thursdays, 12pm - 12:45pm.


Qi Gong Energy Practice

This gentle energy practice incorporates stretches, standing meditation, and relaxation through sound. Tuesdays beginning September 22, 11am - 12pm.


Meditation and Movement

Explore the benefits of guided meditation and gentle yoga stretches, all in one two-hour workshop. October 19, 1-3 pm RSVP

 

Cooking for Wellness

This nutrition program teaches nutritional information of benefit to people with cancer, while experimenting with new recipes. The atmosphere is casual and tasting is included. The course is taught by a registered dietitian and topics vary by month.  

Select Wednesday of Each Month, 4-6 pm. Upcoming dates and topics:

October 14, 4-6 pm, "Healthy Homemade Bars for Breast Cancer Survivors"

Kids Kicking Cancer 

This children’s program consists of martial arts breathing, meditation and focus techniques.  It teaches children tools to reduce pain, fear and anger.  It is open to children with cancer, children of a parent with cancer and all siblings.  

Thursdays, 3:30-4:30pm (through August)/4:30-5:30 pm (beginning in September).
