Healthy lifestyle classes include exercise, stress management and nutrition programs. All are open to people with cancer and their loved ones.  


 

Exercise Programs

 

Various exercise classes are designed to reduce stress, build strength in the body, and strengthen the immune system for people with cancer and those who support them. Enjoy weekly classes and special offerings. No registration or experience required. Click class title for printable flyer.

 

Yoga for Breast Cancer

Experience postures and poses designed to better the health of women who have had breast cancer. Loved ones welcome. Mondays, 5-6 pm

 

Yoga 

Support your well-being and physical recovery through strength building yoga postures, gentle movement and relaxation. Yoga is shown to boost the immune system and calm the nervous system. Tuesdays 6pm - 7pm & Wednesdays, 11am-12:15pm at CSC and Thursdays, 6-7 pm at St. Joe’s Canton Cancer Center community room.

 

Yoga, Imagery and Relaxation Series

 

This gently paced yoga class is ideal for people currently undergoing treatment or recovering from treatment. The 8-week class combines gentle movement, relaxation techniques and healing imagery. Techniques help people better tolerate symptoms and side effects of cancer treatment.

Led by Diane Morse, RYT.  Diane has 10 years’ experience teaching yoga and has completed Level 1 YCat (Yoga for People in Cancer Treatment) certification.

Tai Chi

Calm the mind and strengthen the body with ancient Chinese movements. Benefits include regeneration, relaxation, improved balance and energy building. Click here to view a video demonstration of our instructor. Mondays, 10-11am

Chi Lel Series

This series is an introduction to the the healing practices of Qi Qong, an ancient Chinese system combining movement, breathing, guided imagery, and relaxed concentration. This class will focus on “Lift Chi Up and Pour Chi Down”, a healing sounds meditation, and a “golden light” meditation. Chi Lel can enhance your sense of well-being and balance.

Guided Meditation 

Calm the mind by utilizing relaxation techniques such as guided meditation and guided imagery. Tuesdays, 12-1 pm


Zumba Gold

This class includes Latin and International dance rhythms such as Merengue, Salsa, Cha Cha, Cumbia, Belly Dancing, Flamenco, Samba, and Rock & Roll. It is a safe and effective total body workout in a party like atmosphere. 

Thursdays, 12pm - 12:45pm.


Walk with a Doc

Grab your friends and family and join us monthly for this walking group at Gallup Park. Led by a different physician every month, this walk will get you and your family moving while providing an opportunity for informal discussion with doctors and experts of various specialties. As part of a partnership with the National non profit “Walk with a Doc” these hourly walks are for people of all ages and abilities. Rain or shine. Walks are from 10-11 am.

These walks start at the pavilion near the parking lot and play structure at Gallup Park. Enter the park, proceed over the wooden bridge and park where it dead ends. The pavilion is near the bathrooms. The route is 3 miles total in two 1.5 mile loops. Water and snacks provided.  

 

Cooking for Wellness

This nutrition program teaches nutritional information of benefit to people with cancer, while experimenting with new recipes. The atmosphere is casual and tasting is included. The course is taught by a registered dietitian and topics vary by month.

Kids Kicking Cancer 

This children’s program consists of martial arts breathing, meditation and focus techniques.  It teaches children tools to reduce pain, fear and anger.  It is open to children with cancer, children of a parent with cancer and all siblings.  

Thursdays, 4:30-5:30pm.
