A variety of free support options are available for the whole family, the whole time. From diagnosis through survivorship or bereavement support, there is a group for everyone, at any stage of the cancer experience. Click to expand the sections below to learn more and register.

WEEKLY GROUPS

WEEKLY LIVING WITH CANCER GROUPS

For patients and survivors in active treatment or up to about a year post-treatment. Two different groups meet weekly:
Mondays 11 am – 1 pm
Tuesdays 6 – 8 pm

WEEKLY FAMILY AND FRIENDS GROUPS 

For loved ones of those diagnosed with cancer. Two different groups meet weekly:

NEW: CREATIVITY FOR WELLNESS: ART THERAPY GROUP WITH THE CANCER SUPPORT COMMUNITY

Exercising our creative selves can bring balance, pleasure, clarity and calm—nurturing overall well-being. Research has shown engaging in creativity can reduce tiredness, alleviate anxiety and elevate mood. Explore your creativity and connect with other patients, survivors, and caregivers in a supportive space, professionally-facilitated by board-certified art therapist Kathleen Buday, MEd, ATR-BC. No art experience necessary, just a willingness to explore and express. We hope you’ll join us!

SERIES GROUPS

CANCER 101: SUPPORT FOR RECENTLY DIAGNOSED PATIENTS

If you were diagnosed with cancer in the last six months, join us for this six-week series welcoming to connect with others, gain support, and ease the adjustment to living with cancer. We schedule this series based on interest and availability, so sign up today and we’ll be in touch soon about scheduling.

KID SUPPORT, TEEN TIME, AND PARENTING SUPPORT

This four-week series on Zoom brings together families impacted by cancer to share support. After starting all together, separate groups will break out for parents, kids, and teens. Age-appropriate activities using art and play help kids express their feelings, while parents and teens have their own spaces to talk with others who truly understand. FOCUS: FACING CANCER TOGETHER

SURVIVORSHIP TRANSITIONS

Five-week series for survivors finished with primary treatment. Find your new normal, mind, body, and spirit in this program that combines emotional support, exercise coaching, and education. INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT

COUNSELING 

The Cancer Support Community and St. Joseph Mercy Health System are pleased to partner to offer free counseling services to all St. Joe’s Cancer Center patients and families.

 

Services offered by Oncology Counselor Lindsay Passmore, LMSW, MAT, include adjustment to illness counseling, depression and anxiety screening, guided imagery to reduce anxiety during difficult and painful procedures, and more. Counseling sessions with Lindsay are offered free of charge; neither patients/loved ones or their insurance will be billed for this service.

ONE-ON-ONE SUPPORT

Our clinical social work staff is here to offer one-on-one emotional support over the phone or videoconference. Click the link below to request an appointment and we’ll be in touch soon to get you scheduled.

FRIENDLY CALLER PROGRAM

During this uncertain and isolating time, our new Friendly Caller Program is here to help our community stay connected. Sign up below to receive a weekly call from a staff member or trained volunteer to simply say hello, check in, and chat for awhile. We could all use a little more connection right now, and we hope this program will help reduce feelings of isolation in our community.
